Summary in English

This is a website about Karl Johan Johansson. It's based on three articles (in Swedish) written by me and published in the annual Natio Smolandica in 1999, 2000 and 2002-2003. Karl Johan Johansson (sometimes spelled Carl Johan Johansson) was born in 1818 in the county of Småland in the south of Sweden. From 1838 on he studied natural sciences at the university in Uppsala. He remained there until his death in 1854, without managing to graduate. During 1851 to 1853 he was appointed by The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences to be physicist aboard the frigate Eugenie of the Royal Swedish Navy, when it made an around the world trip. During all his years in Uppsala he was a member of the students' club Smålands nation. The nation is still today caring for his grave, which can be found in the old cemetery of Uppsala.

I have written a fourth article about Johansson, dealing with his diary from the voyage 1851-1853. The article has been published in Forum Navale, a Swedish journal for naval history, in issue 62, 2006, and contains an English summary (pages 103-104).

If you are interested in the content of this website, but do not read Swedish, please send me an e-mail with your questions or comments.
