"I want to become an actress in Swedish TV theater."
She seems to be a girl with a lot of choices, 18 year old Svensktopp star Agnetha. The girl with "I Was So In Love" which you probably remember from last winter. But it is a choice of the pleasant kind. Agnetha, being a girl with many irons in the fire - since six months ago. Agnetha is thinking and longing. Should she go for Germany immediately, taking home the big bucks, or will she try to get what she deep down wants to be, an actress? It's a tough choice, as difficult as it was last spring to stop singing with Enghardt's Orchestra in Jönköping which she has toured with for a couple of years. But then she waited too long with this decision. Which was a good thing.
In large part, it is also thanks to Enghardt's Orchestra as Agnetha has been able to become a big name. The bandleader the bandleader Bengt Enghardt sent a demo to Little Gerhard, who is now production manager of a gramophone company. And Little Gerhard was amazed at Agnetha's voice and contacted her by phone. Boy, she was amazed! Even more surprised was when her first album with a song which she wrote both music and lyrics went directly to number 3 on the Swedish chart. Record Sales took off and after a few weeks, "I Was So In Love" sold 80 000 copies - a fantastic success.
There were more than Agnetha who was surprised, most people in show business thought it was a fantastic performance by Agnetha to get a song on the Swedish chart that she had written all by her self. ButAgnetha do not think that song is particularly remarkable, no more remarkable than her other songs.
I have been writing songs for a long while she says, ever since I was ten years old. When I get in the mood I light two candles - preferably red - and sit at the piano. And then comes a melody. In most cases there will be a sad one. Agnetha is a not melancholy nature, quite the opposite and think that she is very happy. But she needs sorrow and sadness in her music as a counterweight. And maybe to get her feelings when she is after all not so happy. Her two chart songs "I Was So In Love" and "Without Love" are both love songs, inspired by the previous boyfriends. But in future we get to hear her sing about happy love. For now, Agnetha really is in love!Since last spring, she along with Dieter Zimmermann, a German pop composer, whom she met in Berlin when she was there to record an album. At the end of July they engaged. The engagement can mean a lot for Agnetha. She has not only gained a great guy that she fits well with, but also a gifted composer and producer, to launch her on the German market. I firmly believe in Agnetha, says Dieter. Her romantic and slightly melancholic orientation is exactly what is needed in Germany right now. She has every prospect of becoming the next Swedish artist who makes home big bucks there. But Agnetha do not know which leg to stand on. For her, her big dream is to become an actress. I always wanted to perform in public, she says. Although I have never had the chance, but more for fun - when we performed in school and on similar occasions. Standing on the stage I of course had to do during the summer tours - but it's not quite the same thing to just stand and sing. Now, in any case she decided. The Germany plans shelved for now and the contract with Enghard's Orchestra is broken. For Agnetha will begin at Calle Flygare's theater school. Her goal is the television theater as Agnetha thinks is an unusually rewarding medium. Just as serious as the regular theater, but with the advantage that it reaches so many more viewers. But in the autumn she disappears not entirely as a singer. During the fall, she will be launched as a Sweden's Nancy Sinatra. The Lee Hazelwood she has choosen is called Jörgen Edman. Together they have developed a completely new sound for the Swedish charts and it's expected to be a huge success. We also get the chance to see her live on stage. She is namely involved in a joint venture with among others Sten & Stanley. That is also expected to be a success. And maybe it will be despite the happy love also some sad songs in the fall. Dieter has sadly traveled back to Berlin to produce records, and Agnetha has to be content with writing letters every night and talk to him on the phone once a week. And pass the time to looking forward to seing him and write his next chart success "Longing".
