Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Benny buys another race horse for SEK 400.000:

$58,000?? You can feed a lot of people with that.

"Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
It's a rich man's world" lol

o-o

Anyone know who's richer if Benny or Bjorn? :)

Thomas Wilson

The thing to my mind is he earned it. If he lived in the U.S. with the "Change" that the current "occupant" of the Oval Office, has been promising, he'd be hard put to keep any of his money. What would feeding however many $58k do any good, if they were with the same amount of money taught how to feed themselves? It's what I think is the basic disconnect between where Benny comes from. And for that matter where I come from. Compared to the philosophy in D.C., where they think that they can spend their way out of debt, and want to punish anyone for being successful. Nyet Spasiba, Comrade!

o-o

Earned or not
I think the lucky ones should help the not so lucky ones without thinking if others are doing the same or right thing.
but is people's right to do with their money what they want.

mikespeir

But like they say, it takes money to make money. Who knows how much Benny gives to charitable causes? Maybe investing in this horse will earn him more so he can give more.

jes

exactly...nobody knows what benny does with his money...he will donate alot without making a big thing out of it...beside that its his money...he worked hard for it and is entitled to do with it whatever he pleases...i wouldnt make excuses either

Nina

Quatation from interview in "Focus" with Benny Andersson regarding Sweden's high taxes:
"Jag betalar mycket, men det känns bra att ge tillbaka, att bidra. Dessutom blir det mycket över."

My own translation:
"I pay a lot, but it feels good to give something back, to contribute. And I still get to keep a lot myself."

mikespeir

That's something to keep in mind, Nina. In Sweden they pay really high taxes, and a lot of that money goes to what we would call charitable causes. Basically, that means they're contributing to charity all the time.

o-o

but in that case they dont have a choice
he has too. ;)

Nina

Oh, rich people still have the choice to place their money abroad to escape the Swedish taxes. But Benny has choosen not too. He has also donated large amounts of money. Last year he donated 1 million Skr to FI. He wanted to remain anonymous, but the press revealed that Benny was behind the donation.

o-o

he's money comes from bussinesses based in Sweden he would still have to pay. lol
i'm glad he donated to charity
he can claim it on his taxes. lol
enough. the end.

Nina

No, no, there is no such things as deduction of donations to charity from your taxes in Sweden. So what you donate is already taxed money.

o-o

Thanks for the info, Nina. :) I forgot to mention that he looks yucky in that pic. lol

Nina

Happy indeed! And to answer your original question, Benny is reported to be richer than Björn. Although I can only relay what is reported in the press, I have no personal knowledge of that.

o-o

I would've thought that because Bjorn had a Jet and is a sharper dresser he had more money. Anyway, is probably a lot more than I will ever dream of having. lol Thanks for the info again. :)

Nina

Maybe that is why Benny is richer, Björn spends his money, Benny does not. (Well, apart from the horses of course....)

At least I feel 100% sure it is not lack of money that makes Benny dress the way he does! :)

Moonlight

Benny was a sharp dresser when he was with the princess of fashion - FRIDA. lol

Nicolas

One more race horse... I'm not surprised! The only shocking thing to me is that Benny said many times: "ABBA is over. ABBA belongs to the past. I can't explain the ABBA revival and I don't understand why there is still such an interest for ABBA with so many fans around!".
In an interview at the Deauville Festival, for the Mamma Mia! premiere, he declared: "Fans have been asking for unreleased songs for 20 years - through letters, faxes and emails. But I'm sorry to say that there will never be unreleased ABBA material... Never!"
I was shocked to read this because it confirmed what I thought. Benny doesn't care about the fans and especially the loyal fans who were there and bought the records from the 70s!

Without ABBA and without the fans, Benny wouldn't be able to buy race horses, the Hotel Rival and several houses in Sweden...

To me, the best way to thank the fans for their loyalty would be the release of a CD featuring some rare and unreleased tracks and alternate mixes... The excerpts included in the "ABBA Undeleted" medley exist in their full versions. And there are some beautiful working sessions recorded for Chiquitita, etc...
And such a CD wouldn't cost a Swedish crown to him but it would be his most beautiful gift and reward to the fans who made him so rich!

I'm really, really shocked and disappointed to realize that Benny is now a very rich and pretentious musician. He doesn't care about us! I love his music but not the man! When he wasn't so rich, he was nicer, simpler, generous and so kind towards the fans!

I know many of you won't like this comment but it's time to say that we deserve a better treatment. We are so tired of all those useless compilations released every year.

mikespeir

That's kinda harsh, Nicolas. Do you know there's any material to release? Even if there is, isn't it his to release or not? How do you figure Benny owes us this?

Nonya

i think Benny and Bjorn lost their mojo after the divorces. something was going on in those bedrooms. lol
