I think it's much nicer. I'm sure that picture with the multiply inset rectangles seemed quite clever at the time, but in this day and age it looks like an awkward first experiment you might do in the few minutes after installing Photoshop on your computer.

In fact, even for 1974 Ring Ring cover looked rather lame. With Pink Floyd and Co. around, I think, you all know what I mean (The Dark Side of the Moon was released in 1973, remember?). But this here picture is really nice and I think if it had been used, the cover would have created much, much better impression.
