Tomorrow (20 June) we will celebrate Midsummer's Eve here in Sweden. It's a big thing, everyone is waiting for the longest day of the year, drink too much schnapps and beer, eat herring and swim in icy cold water. Hmmm...
But I found a clip of Björn, Benny, Agnetha & Frida from Midsummer Eve 1973 - 35 years ago. They did a concert in Bursiljum (must be a tiny folk park - I've never head of it). They were just a year away from breaking internationally and big. This was the "Ring Ring" summer tour, I guess. I wish all readers a Glad Midsommar!
The four members of ABBA have been "honoured" by the Swedish crossword magazine "Krysset Special" and each member has his or hers own crossword, 2 full pages per each. And not to forget - the beautiful Agnetha on the cover! It felt like like it was 1976 all over again.
Today Swedish Radio revealed their "sommarpratare" (summer talker) for this summer. Björn Ulvaeus is one of them and he will get to talk about whatever he likes for 2 full hours. Here's SR's description of Björn:
BJÖRN ULVAEUS DATE OF SOMMARPRAT: 2008-07-13 TITLE: composer, lyricist AGE: 63 years old LIVES: In Djursholm outside of Stockholm
Makes his debut as Sommarpratare.
World famous as one of the four members of ABBA, and one half of Björn and Benny [Andersson], one of the most successfull songwriters ever. Together they have created the musicals "Chess", "Kristina Från Duvemåla" and "Mamma Mia!". Björn started his career in Västervik with the group Hootenanny Singers. In 2006 he was the receipient of the Humanist's Hedenius Award for his work with writing articles about religious criticism. Björn has runned Stockholm Marathon on the time 3 hours 23 minutes and 54 seconds.
- In my program I will talk about memories and self esteem; the sense that you really don't see yourself.
Today it was revealed that Benny and his orchestra will continue their tradition of playing at the last "Allsång" at Skansen in Stockholm. This summer it will be on the 5th of August and the show will be televised by SVT.
